"Łužica leži w ćišinje. Ale ćišina słyši." — SORBNET NODE 7

The DDR had its own parallel data network — the Datennetz der DDR. After 1990 it was never fully decommissioned. Nodes persisted. Packets still echo through the old copper lines under Budyšin, through the relay station in Kamjenc, through the Kombinat ruins at Schwarze Pumpe.

The Sorbian underground network — SORBNET — grafted onto these ghost lines in the 1990s. No server. No admin. No off switch. The data exists in the network itself. The language persists. Łužyca remembers.

📜 ZONE LORE — THE LUSATIAN DISTRICT

In the late 20th century, the open-cast lignite mines of the Lausitz were among the largest excavations ever made by human hands. The DDR-era machines — the Abraumförderbrücken — moved millions of tonnes of earth per year. When the mines closed after the Wende, they left behind moonscapes: vast, toxic craters stretching for kilometres.

Then the subsidence began. The groundwater rose. The earth opened. Something changed in the pits of Welzow-Süd and Nochten that cannot be explained by geology alone. The Zone Authority sealed the perimeter in 2019. What lives there now, no official dossier admits.

The Wanderers call it the Void. The Sorbischer Bund calls it the Wound. The Miners call it home.

SUBSIDENCE EVENT detected — Sector 7, Tagebau Welzow-Süd. Ground collapse radius: ~340m. Gravitational readings anomalous. Void depth: 38m and expanding. ACCESS PROHIBITED. Zone Authority drones deployed. All civilian movement in 5km radius suspended effective 24.02.2026 06:00 CET.

📻 LAST RADIO CONTACT

This is Wjeńka. Southwest of the headframe ruins, near old Proschim village. The anomalies have shifted again — yesterday's path is now a subsidence field. Found a deposit of lignite coal laced with something crystalline. No colour in the electromagnetic spectrum I recognise. Calling it "Coal-Heart". Value: unknown.

The men from the Office of Security have been spotted near the old Kombinat gate. They don't shoot. They just… watch. And write things down in notebooks. That's somehow worse.

"You smell like the Void. That means you survived the Void. That means you have something interesting for me." — Šołta operates out of the ruins of the Black Pump Power Station gatehouse. He trades in artefacts, pre-Wende DDR goods, and Zone Authority intel. He claims to have been a miner before 1990. His hands say he's telling the truth.
